Climate change and its repercussions are recognized as the greatest contemporary challenge. The consequences of global warming are affecting societies throughout the globe and are linked to social unrest. The transition to green economy fuelled by renewable resources requires adaptation of the societies, business, organizations, and individuals. The needs to decarbonize the economy, to satisfy the goals of social justice and equality and the interlinking of the economic and ecological systems are of vital importance.
The aim of the center is to study complex socio-technical dynamics of transition to the green economy which requires transformation to models of more sustainable operations, production and consumption. The climate crisis and resulting side effects compels innovation and novel economic (business) models that challenge business-as-usual.
The center´s role is to bring together senior and early-stage researchers from different fields working on various aspects of the transition towards green economy, to promote joint research and strengthen their visibility in Iceland and abroad.
